Ordering a bespoke portrait is a special experience, and I’ve made the process as effortless as possible with this horse portrait quick guide. This streamlined guide will walk you through everything you need to know—from selecting the perfect reference photos to understanding sizes, materials, and delivery.

Whether this is your first commissioned artwork or you’re adding to a collection, I’m here to make it easy and enjoyable. With clear steps and personal guidance, you can commission your portrait with confidence, knowing you’re in expert hands.

Below, you’ll find a streamlined overview of how to order your bespoke portrait with ease.

Step 1: Getting Started

  • Get in touch – use the contact form or email your inquiry or order
  • Send some photos – add some photos to your message or email or send them separately later
  • Composition – I’ll email one or more digital compositions or ‘mock-ups’ for your approval or to help you choose
  • Quote – I’ll email a formal quote listing all details including size, medium, composition, and price and then add your commission to my list

  • You can get in touch and send your reference photos to me via my contact form at the bottom of the page or on the contact page
  • You can also get in touch and send your reference photos directly by email to pippa@horse-portraits.com

Step 2: From Photo to Painting

  • Painting – I’ll start work on your portrait when you reach the top of my list
  • Approval – when your portrait is completed I’ll email a scan or photo for your approval
  • Adjustments – I’ll make any adjustments required

Lead Times

  • My current waiting time is around 3 months but I can usually turn around your commission within 2 weeks if you need your portrait sooner
  • Let me know your deadline as soon as possible as I am usually able to adjust my list to accommodate

Step 3: Payment & Delivery

  • Approval – when your portrait is completed I’ll email a scan or photo for your approval
  • Invoice – when you are completely happy I’ll email your invoice which can be paid online with any debit or credit card or by Paypal or BACS
  • Delivery – your portrait will be posted; tracked and insured, for delivery within 2 days to UK addresses

Safe & Secure Packaging

  • You can rest assured that your portrait will arrive in perfect condition as I use specially designed 15mm deep honeycomb cardboard packaging which is both completely shockproof and bend-proof.
  • All of the packaging that I use to ship your portrait is ethical and environmentally friendly. No plastic packaging or tape are used or necessary.

  • Feedback – I’d be delighted if you’d leave a review or feedback. It’s always lovely to see a photo your portrait when it’s been framed and hung too.

From Photo to Painting

I’ll assist you in choosing the perfect photo, composition, and portrait details. We’ll finalise the size, medium, and any specific requests. Once everything is agreed, your portrait will be scheduled.

Payment & Delivery

When your artwork is complete you’ll be offered secure ways to pay online and your portrait will be securely packaged and delivered to you with free tracked, insured shipping.
